The Vision of “H.A.D Walk”

HULU Culture presents the characteristics of different districts as to promote the preservation of the local heritage. Through a series of community education, creative design, tours and interactive sharing, the public are guided throughout the districts in order to learn about the history, architecture and cultural aspects. Moreover the public is encouraged to participate and to care about conserving the local history and culture. Through collaboration with other organisations, HULU hopes to create a platform for the community to work and share with, as well as building up a social capital for discovering any creative development opportunities for the continuous development of the districts’ economy, creativity and cultural events.

TKT – City, Countryside, Hakkas 

The first edition of The Heritage X Arts X Design Walk (H.A.D. Walk) in 2011, the second edition was taken place at the Jockey Club Creative Arts Center (JCCAC) in Sham Shui Po. This year’s edition will be based on the culture in Tsuen Wan, Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi.

Tsuen Wan, Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi have their own characteristics as the convergence of ‘City, Villages and Suburbs’. They were once considered as rural areas, even after decades of urban development, lots of local cultural characteristics are still preserved. Tsuen Wan where many Hakkas inhabits is the first local satellite city in Hong Kong. It is full of friendliness which has become a rare quality in the urban city life. On the other hand, Kwai Chung is known as the major area of commercial and industrial in Hong Kong. Lots of factories were situated in the area during early years. Kwai Chung Container Port which came into operation in 1972 is currently the third of the largest freight handling capacity in the world. Tsing Yi Bridge is the landmark of Tsing Yi, it is no longer a deserted island thanks to the convenient transportation network.

On the other hand, you can also find pleasant countryside sceneries and diversified ecological culture in TKT. The alternating development of the city and countryside offers different lifestyles, making this community more diversified.
